COMPUTORISME or COMPUTERISM - San Francisco, 1986 To hell with academics!!!
I found neither of these words defined in the illustrated '83"Petit Larousse" French dictionnary
edition,so it will be called: "COMPUTORISME". Alright!?!
COMPUTORISME is a new style that came to me within a few short hours of dicovering the computer-
an extraordinary talented creature- capable of helping us, the poor driven artists, in moving
towards new horizons, at the speed of light.
Followers of Cubism were pushed by PICASSO, BRAQUE and others and were
influenced by their cubes. The Tachistes, by their stains. The Pointillists, by their dots.
Each of these styles (or rather systems) had their days, some being represented only by a few
artists worldwide and were soon forgotten.
This will not be the same with COMPUTORISME. Artists of the future will have to take it into account.
They will fast discover all the extraordinary possibilities of this new creative system—one that empowers
artists to express themselves at the speed of their visions. A warning here: "Computerism" is totally
forbidden to artists without visions! All this is for the future—an immediate future.
Cubism enclosed the cubist in his cubes. Tachist in his stains, and the pointillist became captious.
COMPUTORISME is in no way similar, where your creativity remains free to flow. The computer gives you
a multiplicity of tools, always ready to work for you at the speed of
light. Your creativity will be honed to a finite point by the speed of your screen. Anyone withthe disease of
"chronic line" (LA LIGNITE*),will never tire to view the building of his innermost images.
How many times, after long hours of work, artists have asked themselves
"Is this the best I can do? If I had done this this way and not that way? Next time, I will try
another way." Yet," next time" very rarely happens. The computer lets you make mistakes. Your
original creation is memorized, stored, and next time becomes now. Change what you don't like, change it
again, turn it and toss it if you like, without losing anything but your time.
Everyone knows that our time is worth a lot, but we don't give enough importance to it.
One explains the other... Work through your ideas and visions, fly towards your dreams.Fear less Art.

*LIGNITE: Dictionary: Brown, shiny mineral - RENOT: Lign disease - Linear obsession forcing

the artist’s creative sense to draw whatever or whoever crosses his field of vision .
